The Stories Project service-learning course developed from Dr. Nancy King's work in storymaking, structured to motivate children who were reluctant readers and writers (http://www.nancykingstories.com/index.htm). She designed and taught the course in the Honors Program at the University of Delaware as a first-year interdisciplinary colloquium for liberal arts students. UD students worked with children with learning differences from the College School. When Dr. Claudia Reder taught the course she was so impressed by the progress children made in reading and writing that she later incorporated The Stories Project into her Children's Literature course at California State University at Channel Islands. Her university students worked with 4th-6th graders, many of whom were English learners and reluctant readers and writers. © 2010 by Indiana University Press. All rights reserved.
