Tóm tắt

Within Australia, entry to the higher education sector is generally subject to the student's choosing a career path prior to leaving high school and entering vocationally specific courses in their first year of university. In contrast, the United States adopts a liberal arts undergraduate approach for the majority of freshman students studying at post-secondary level. A consequence of the Australian approach has been the introduction of multiple pathways options that extend the learning and career opportunities and recognize prior study as qualification for movement between the different education sectors. These study pathway options are numerous and the nature of the offerings varies considerably amongst the different public and private sector providers. Whilst Australia does exhibit a degree of uniqueness with regard to the general adoption of pathway models, there are a growing number of similar examples to be found internationally. Study pathways are now considered to be an essential and dynamic part of international education. In many ways, the reliance on a large and diverse range of study pathways is what defines the Australian approach to student recruitment. A very diverse range of global pathways now exists to enable students to articulate from Secondary School to Higher Education. This analysis examines both the available breadth and scope of global study pathway provisions, drawing on the Australian experience to support the findings © 2009 Springer Netherlands.
