The Faculty of Military Science at the University of Stellenbosch developed a more integrated academic military professional curriculum in accordance with the needs of the services. Many questions were raised concerning the variety of courses presented. Many of the subject matter was composed from the liberal arts curriculum and these subjects especially economics were regarded as imperative in the development of the soldier's thinking. Included also in the review are the following: establishment of the Military Academy in 1950; explanation of the West Point approach to the education of officers; the analysis of the so-called programs' influence on the education of Economics and its comparison to international developments; and the discussion of the South African National Defense Force's (SANDF) view regarding the kind of education officers should receive.
