The Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) and the Association of American Colleges (AAC) have jointly embarked on a project aimed at improving technological literacy offerings for liberal arts majors in higher education. The Technological Literacy Project has been funded by a grant from the National Science Foundation. The project has completed a comprehensive review of existing programs, curricular materials, and literature on technological literacy in higher education. It conducted a Technological Literacy Workshop, an invitational gathering of 50 experts in the field, in Washington in May 1991. The authors describe the output from that workshop, including issues identified and recommendations made. They also describe proposals for ongoing efforts for the stimulation of technological literacy programs for liberal arts majors in higher education, involving engineering colleges and their faculty members.
