Tóm tắt

Siena College, founded in 1937, is a coeducational, independent, liberal arts college with a Franciscan tradition. Separate academic and administrative computing organizations provide computing support and services to the campus community. The Siena College Campus Networkprovides communications to all academic and administrative buildings on campus via a high-speed ethernet network and fiberoptic links. The focus of the computing provided to the academic community is the VAXCluster which consists of a VAX6210 and a VAX6410. Terminal facilities are available to students in three out of five of the academic buildings. Like many other small liberal arts colleges, Siena has remained a predominantly central based computing campus. Minimal support is provided for vax based applications, and relatively no support is currently provided for personal computers. Our paper and presentation will focus of the reorganization efforts that will be undertaken at Siena in computing support in the next few years. As new members of the Siena community we are in the desirable position of being able to start a support organization from the ground up. The focus of our efforts will be to plan and implement a "phase one"? user support organization. As a result of its decision to remain a predominantly central computing campus, Siena will benefit from the experiences of others. We will discuss the technology and the services that are planned for Siena. The major focus of the paper and presentation will be the opportunities available to Siena in the 90's. Highlights will be: • Reorganization of the Faculty Consulting Group • Reorganization of the Faculty Advisory Committee • Reorganization and reorientation of the support organization • Resetting of user expectations ?
