Liberal and Professional Education: Keep Them Separate

Gore criticizes current efforts to link professional education with liberal education on the grounds that weaknesses in liberal education make for an unreliable collaboration. Furthermore, the distinctive domain of professional education precludes a productive linkage with the liberal arts. Teacher educators must recognize the uniqueness of their perspective and build appropriate programs and intellectual environments. The problems of liberal education are formidable, but their resolution is best left to the academy. © 1987, Sage Publications. All rights reserved.
