To the extent that liberal education is a servant of self and society, it will be very careful about what students think they want and for what society expects and will pay for. To the extent that liberal education is a critic of self and society, it will concentrate on providing the tools, the discipline, the attitudes, and the historical perspectives for critical examination of self and society.
