This paper contains a review of the author's six years of experience teaching a course of the "pandemic" type; i. e., one designed for liberal arts students who do not intend to elect advanced chemistry courses. Experiments in instruction methods, choice of subject matter, laboratory assignments, seminar groups for better students, and the problem of the student who decides to take further chemistry courses are discussed. The growth of pandemic courses in this country is reviewed.
